Wiltshire’s men are one step closer to reaching the quarter finals of the Middleton Cup, after securing a 21-1 win against Gloucestershire on Saturday. They won the game 134-109 overall to maintain their unbeaten 3 match winning streak so far this season, which sees them sitting on top of the West Group Section B table.
All that stands in their way now is a Somerset side who are also unbeaten this season, although having played one game less. Both teams will meet tomorrow afternoon at North Petherton B.C (2pm) to decide who will make it through to the quarter final stages. Any kind of win for Wiltshire will see them make the quarter finals for the second season in a row; however a win for Somerset will almost guarantee them qualification, ahead of Wiltshire, with one game remaining against Gloucestershire. As both teams enter the game unbeaten, something has to give, which will no doubt mean an exciting and enthralling encounter between the two sides, who normally conger up something special when they meet.
Wiltshire were always in control against Gloucestershire and led from start to finish, producing a strong performance to give the team plenty of confidence ahead of the crunch game tomorrow. The visitors rallied throughout the second part of the game, however this was not enough to stop the Wiltshire side who eventually won by a 25 shot margin, winning on 5 rinks and drawing the other.
“Like the previous two games we had some spirited performances to get the final result,” said team manager Dave Snell.
“So overall another great result, which gives us 62 points after the first three group matches.”
He added: “The team are very aware that we still have to beat Somerset this weekend to be certain of qualifying to the quarter final stage and are looking forward to the challenge.”
The Wiltshire selectors have named an unchanged side to take on Somerset.
