Purton’s Chris Mitchell played brilliant bowls in the BE Ladies National Champions Singles narrowly losing 21 – 16 to England International Stef Branfield of Clevedon BC in this afternoons final. This was an outstanding performance over two days of bowling against high quality bowlers.
In this mornings Quarter Final she played against Ellie Last of Felixstowe & Suffolk BC winning 21 – 16 which set up a semi-final against England International Jamie-Lea Winch. Chris was never behind in this match winning 21 — 18 to set up the final against Stef who in her semi-final beat fellow International Natalie Chestney 21 – 12.
In the final Chris again got off to a good start leading 11 – 2 after 9 ends but Stef gradually chipped away at Chris’s lead with the turning point in the match coming in the twentieth end with Chris leading 15 – 14 Stef picked up a 4 and three ends later reached the needed 21 shots to win her first singles title.
However, Chris must be really proud of her fantastic efforts and Bowls Wiltshire would like to congratulate Chris on her outstanding performances over the last two days.
