News from Stratton Churchway BC

Our club open day is on Saturday 16th July, 10am – 5pm and is a very popular part of the successful “Stratton Festival” that is held on the parish council grounds/buildings adjacent to the bowls club on the same day.

The play bowls follow up sessions are on,

Friday 22nd July 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Friday 29th July 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Friday 5th August 6.30pm – 8.30pm

Friday 12th August 6.30pm – 8.30pm

We have also been successful in obtaining grants over the last 6 months from The Swindon Sports Forum, Stratton St Margaret Parish Council and Table Tennis England to improve the facilities we offer to our members, our community and the new bowlers joining or trying our sport for the first time.

Receiving grants totalling just over £1500 and with some investment from the club has enabled a new Table Tennis table to be purchased as part of the “Loop” scheme run by Table Tennis England, which we hope will encourage members to stay more active as well as more new members joining the club with a wide range of facilities on offer to its members.

Stratton (640x478)

We will be running some friendly competitions during the season as we make full use of our new table tennis table.

The remainder of the grants will be used to buy new equipment for our open days and part fund events we host for groups in the community – Stratton 2 (640x478) Stratton 3 (640x427)Jubilee Gardens (Christmas Eve skittles), Parkinson’s Swindon (fundraising race night), Midwinter Gardens (Bingo, tea & cake) and other community groups in Swindon who can benefit from the facilities that we offer and the events we arrange as part of our improving and enhancing people’s lives programme (with the support of our members at SCBC).

Open Day – Highworth Bowls Club

April will see the opening of the green at Highworth Bowls Club, ready for a new season of outdoor lawn bowls in the Club’s 80th anniversary year.

The Club invites visitors to its Open Day on Saturday 14th May, from around 10:30am to 3:00pm. The Club’s qualified coaches will be on hand to give you a ‘taster’ bowling session – no need to book – just turn up on the day with flat shoes.

Of course, you don’t have to bowl to be a member of Highworth Bowls Club. Our clubhouse and bar is open throughout the year for our social and bowling members; after bowling throughout the summer, we play crib, short mat bowls, and league skittles throughout the winter. New members – social, bowlers, or skittlers – are most welcome.
