Bowls England have advised all Bowls Clubs in England to look at the Sports England Funding Projects. Downton Bowling Club are investigating these opportunities and have several projects in mind.
The first is to set up a Short Mat Bowls Section in the Club. The Mats need to be 45 feet long and cost between £750 and £1200. The ideal place for playing this game is the adjacent Sherwood Room which can host all types of functions and is large enough for Short Mat Bowls.
Another project revolves around the Bowls England scheme for introducing new players to the game. On the weekend of 28-31 May every Club in England has been encouraged to have an Open Day. More information will be provided but Downton will be advertising this event locally and through social websites.
The Club, has in the past, invited local schools to take up the Game of Outdoor Bowls and this year more sessions will be organised where younger people can take part.
Downton Bowling Club has one of the best greens in the area and is based at Wick Lane very close to the Leisure Centre.
