A disappointing afternoon in the Middleton Cup for BW Men

This afternoon we suffered a very disappointing 20 shot defeat against Worcestershire in the Preliminary Round of the Middleton Cup, played at the neutral venue of Cotswold BC; this defeat coming despite winning on 3 rinks.

We made a slow start and after 5 ends were trailing by 16 shots, but then mounted a comeback and at 10 ends had managed to open a 10 shot lead. This was short-lived and at 15 ends we found ourselves 10 down with the ends starting to run out. Once again we dug deep and with 8 ends left across the board we’d managed to tie the scores but our hopes were well and truly dashed as we lost those remaining ends 2 -22.

It was not a result I saw coming; the atmosphere was very flat across the green and several players will have travelled home disappointed with their performances.

There is much for the selection team to mull over for the 2022 campaign.

Cheers
